Hridoy blitz as Bangladesh beat NZ: 1st T20 (Chattogram)

New Zealand was in control of the 1st T20I after piling up an imposing 182/5, driven by a blistering innings from Cleaver and powerful finishing at the death. On a surface offering good pace and carry, the total looked more than enough to put the visitors on course for victory.

Bangladesh, however, produced one of the finest chases in their T20 history. Led brilliantly by Towhid Hridoy and an aggressive middle-order counterattack, the hosts matched New Zealand shot for shot before holding their nerve in the closing overs. The successful pursuit of 183 became Bangladesh’s highest-ever chase in T20 internationals, sealing a landmark victory and an early series advantage.

Bangladesh 183 for 4 (Hridoy 51*, Shamim 31*, Sodhi 2-40) beat New Zealand 182 for 6 (Cleaver 51, Clarke 51, Rishad 2-32) by six wickets.
