Robinson hits back after Jamieson mows down England: 1st Test, Day 1 (Lords)

Kyle Jamieson took five wickets as England and New Zealand traded blows on a captivating opening day of the first Test at Lord’s, with the bowlers firmly in control.

After choosing to field, New Zealand were rewarded by a brilliant spell from Kyle Jamieson, who claimed 5-62 as England were bowled out for 140. Harry Brook stood tall amid the collapse with a resilient 56, but the hosts found scoring difficult against disciplined seam bowling and lively conditions.

England responded in equally impressive fashion, refusing to let the visitors seize the advantage. Ollie Robinson marked his return to the Test side with a devastating spell of 4-10, including three wickets in his opening over, as New Zealand slumped to 61-6 by stumps.

Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten on 31 to keep the Black Caps afloat, but after 16 wickets fell in a dramatic day’s play, England held a narrow upper hand with New Zealand still trailing by 79 runs.

New Zealand 61 for 6 (Phillips 31*, Robinson 4-10) trail England 140 (Brook 56, Jamieson 5-62, Smith 3-38) by 79 runs.
