Zimbabwe dominated the second day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh in Harare, turning a narrow overnight deficit into a commanding first-innings lead.
Resuming on 136/1, the hosts were eventually dismissed for 410, securing a 270-run advantage. Innocent Kaia starred with a magnificent maiden Test century, scoring 140, while captain Craig Ervine made 60, Brian Bennett struck a brisk 59 and Wessly Madhevere remained unbeaten on 77. Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam was the standout bowler with an impressive haul of 7 for 110.
Bangladesh faced an uphill battle in their second innings and reached 40/1 by stumps, still trailing by 230 runs. Richard Ngarava struck early to dismiss Shadman Islam, while Mahmudul Hasan Joy remained unbeaten on 21 alongside Mominul Haque on 9.
With Zimbabwe firmly in control and plenty of time left in the match, the visitors will need a major batting effort on Day 3 to save the Test.
Bangladesh 40 for 1 (Mahmudul 21*) and 140 (Mominul 60, Nyamhuri 4-61, Ngarava 2-18) trail Zimbabwe 410 (Kaia 140, Madhevere 77*, Ervine 60, Taijul 7-138) by 230 runs.
