Travis Head’s fighting century was in vain as South Africa produced a commanding performance to come back from behind to defeat Australia by an innings and 34 runs in the second Test, levelling the series at 1–1.

Forced to follow on, Australia showed greater resistance in their second innings, with Travis Head scoring a superb 121 to lead the fightback. However, Kagiso Rabada’s four for 77 and Wiaan Mulder’s three for 64 ensured the hosts maintained control, as Australia were bowled out for 295.

Despite Head’s determined century, the deficit proved too great to overcome. Bavuma’s outstanding innings laid the foundation for South Africa’s emphatic victory, setting up an exciting contest for the remainder of the series.

South Africa 425 for 9 decl (Bavuma 179, Jansen 85, Harmer 82, Boland 5-81) beat Australia 99 (Jansen 5-33) and 295 (Head 121, Rabada 4-77, Mulder 3-64) by an innings and 34 runs.
