Spofforth and the Ashes myth

Fiery fast bowler Fred "Demon" Spofforth was probably Australia's first cricketing idol when he made his entrance in 1877, playing under Charles Bannerman.

The Ashes myth itself was born in 1882 when Ivo Bligh's Engliahsman regained the Ashes in Australia.
