Stuart Broad: Formed famed bowling partnership with Jimmy Anderson

Stuart Christopher John Broad CBE (born 24 June 1986 in Nottingham) was a tall fast bowler, 6′5″ in height. He is the son of England opener Chris Broad.

He was fiery competitor and had a mastery of bounce and in‑swing. Making his international debut in 2006 (ODI/T20) and Test debut in 2007, Broad’s partnership with James Anderson became the backbone of England’s pace attack for over a decade.

In a 17‑year career, he played 167 Tests, taking 604 wickets at 27.68, becoming fifth on the all‑time list and England’s second‑highest Test wicket‑taker.

Broad’s Ashes legacy is defined by iconic spells: 8–15 at Trent Bridge in 2015, two Test hat‑tricks (2011 vs India, 2014 vs Sri Lanka), and concluding his career by securing the last two wickets of the 2023 Ashes at The Oval, finishing as England’s all‑time leading Ashes wicket‑taker with 151 victims.

A handy left‑hander, he scored a memorable 169 at Lord’s against Pakistan in 2010 and was part of England’s 2010 ICC World T20‑winning side. His batting tailed off in the latter phase of his career after he was struck in the face by a bouncer from Varun Aaron.

Broad retired from Test cricket at the end of the 2023 Ashes series.

Appointed MBE in 2016 and promoted to CBE in 2023, Broad has since transitioned to broadcasting and consultancy, helping bowlers such as South Africa for the 2025 WTC Final, all while ruling out full‑time coaching.
