Ehteshamuddin, born on 4 September 1950 in Lahore, was a right-arm fast-medium bowler who represented Pakistan in five Test matches between 1979 and 1982.
Renowned for his accuracy rather than express pace, he made his debut against India in Bengaluru in November 1979 and went on to claim 16 wickets at an average of 23.43, including a career-best 5 for 47 at Kanpur.
Though his batting was negligible, scoring just 2 runs in three innings, his disciplined bowling made him a valuable contributor. His finest series came on the 1979–80 tour of India, where he took 14 wickets at under 20 apiece.
Domestically, he enjoyed a prolific career, playing 134 first-class matches, capturing 507 wickets at 20.65 with 37 five-wicket hauls and 8 ten-wicket matches, alongside 13 wickets in limited-overs cricket.
Brief though his international career was, his consistency and control established him as a respected figure in Pakistan’s pace-bowling ranks.
