Tanvir Ahmed was born on 20th Dec, 1978 in Kuwait. He had never played cricket before the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Many expatriates went back home. Tanvir's family returned to Karachi, where, by then aged 14, he started playing cricket in the streets with his new friends.
He is a right-arm fast bowler who made his first class debut in 1998 and now plays for Karachi in Pakistan's first class cricket competition. Tanvir has had to wait for his chance at international level but he shone for Karachi in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 2010 snaring 97 first-class wickets.
Aged 31, he was finally selected on Pakistan's tour to England in 2010 but did not play any Tests. He made his debut against South Africa shortly afterwards in the 2nd Test at Abu Dhabi. Tanvir made an immediate impact as,he became the sixth Pakistani to take a wicket in his first over in Test cricket when he had Alviro Petersen snicking to Akmal.
