Harry Tector has emerged as one of Ireland’s premier batters and a central figure in the national team’s rise across all three formats.
Born in Dublin on 6 December 1999, the right-handed middle-order batter captained Ireland at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup before progressing rapidly to senior international cricket. He made his T20I debut in 2019, his ODI debut in 2020, and his Test debut in 2023, immediately impressing with a half-century in his maiden Test innings.
Tector’s elegant technique, calm temperament and ability to construct long innings have made him Ireland’s most dependable performer in ODI cricket. He announced himself on the world stage with a series of outstanding performances in 2022, including centuries against stronger opposition, and soon climbed into the upper reaches of the ICC ODI batting rankings. Equally capable of rebuilding after early wickets or accelerating in the closing stages, he has become the batting mainstay around whom Ireland’s line-up is built.
Away from the international arena, Tector has gained valuable experience in franchise cricket, featuring in competitions such as the Caribbean Premier League and the Bangladesh Premier League.
Cricket is a family tradition, with brothers Jack and Tim also representing Ireland, while grandfather Bill Tector was an Ireland rugby international. Still in his mid-twenties, Harry Tector is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s brightest talents and is expected to play a leading role as the team continues to strengthen its presence in world cricket.
