South Africa win series as Ngidi demolishes Aussies: 2nd ODI (McKay)

Paceman Lungi Ngidi bowled a devastating spell as South Africa sealed the ODI series with a commanding 84-run victory over Australia in the second match at Mackay, bowling out the hosts for just 193 after setting a target of 278.

Matthew Breetzke (88) and Tristan Stubbs (74) anchored South Africa’s innings before Adam Zampa (3/63) and Marnus Labuschagne (2/19) pulled Australia back, restricting the visitors to 277.

In reply, Australia collapsed despite a lone fight from Josh Inglis (87), undone by Ngidi’s spell of 5/42 with support from Senuran Muthusamy (2 wickets).

The win not only handed South Africa an unassailable 2-0 series lead but also underlined their ODI dominance over Australia, while the hosts’ batting frailties at home continued to be exposed.

South Africa 277 (Breetzke 88, Stubbs 74, Zampa 3-63) beat Australia 193 (Inglis 87, Ngidi 5-42) by 84 runs.
