Most Successful Captain : Ricky Ponting

By most statistics, Ricky Ponting will be judged as one of the most successful captains of all time.

Ponting had 219 wins in the 322 matches in which he led Australia over his career. He also led Australia to a 5-0 Ashes win in 2006/07 and won 2 World Cups in 2003 and 2007.

Ponting did have one black mark in his captaincy record - losing a record 3 Ashes series to the old enemy, England.

Ponting captained Australia in 77 Test matches for 48 wins - the most of any Test skipper - 16 losses and 13 draws. His 227 one-day matches in charge saw 163 wins and 50 losses.

Ponting stepped down from the captaincy and played under Michael Clarke following the 2011 World Cup loss.
