1999: Saeed Anwar smashes Windies as Pakistan romp home (Toronto)

Pakistan began their three-match DMC Trophy series with a 15-run victory over West Indies at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.

Saeed Anwar provided the foundation with a composed 63 from 96 deliveries, striking nine boundaries in an innings of considerable class.

He shared an opening partnership of 131 with Wajahatullah Wasti, who contributed 40, while Inzamam-ul-Haq (24) and Yousuf Youhana (25) added useful runs. Azhar Mahmood provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 25 from just 13 balls as Pakistan reached 230 for six.

West Indies made a determined response through Sherwin Campbell, who top-scored with 69 from 107 balls, while Brian Lara made 20 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul added 29.

Jimmy Adams remained unbeaten on 35, but Pakistan’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding kept the visitors under pressure. Three run-outs proved particularly costly as West Indies finished on 215 for nine from their 50 overs.

Anwar was named Player of the Match for his influential opening contribution, as Pakistan took a 1–0 lead in the series.
