Deep demolishes England as India level series: 2nd Test, Day 5 (Birmingham)

Recalled paceman Akash Deep was the hero as India outplayed England to register their maiden Test victory at Edgbaston to level the five-match series 1-1.

Chasing a target of 608, England were bowled out for 271 with 27 overs left. Only a defiant 88 from Jamie Smith held up India as Deep took 6-99.

Deep now has the best figures by an Indian bowler in Tests in England, becoming the second to take a 10 wicket match bag in England after Chetan Sharma in 1986.

India 587 (Gill 269, Jadeja 89, Jaiswal 87, Bashir 3-167) and 427 for 6 dec (Gill 161, Jadeja 69, Pant 65, Rahul 55, Tongue 2-93) beat England 407 (Smith 184, Brook 158, Siraj 6-70, Akash Deep 4-88) and 271 (Smith 88, Akash 6-99) by 336 runs.
