Dinusha, Mendis extend SL control over Windies: 2nd Test, Day 2 (Antigua)

Sri Lanka strengthened their grip over the West Indies with a commanding batting performance on day two, declaring their first innings on 549/9.

Building on Lahiru Udara’s superb 188 from the opening day, Sonal Dinusha contributed a composed 92, while Kusal Mendis added 69 as the visitors continued to pile on the runs. Their sixth-wicket partnership of 143 ensured Sri Lanka posted a daunting total before captain Dhananjaya de Silva opted to declare late in the day.

West Indies faced a difficult final session but reached stumps on 58/1, still trailing by 491 runs. Brandon King fell to Prabath Jayasuriya for 17, while John Campbell remained unbeaten on 31 to give the hosts a platform heading into day three.

Despite that small positive, Sri Lanka remain firmly in control of the Test, with their bowlers now well placed to press for a series-levelling victory.

West Indies 58 for 1 (Campbell 31*, King 17, Asitha 1-11) trail Sri Lanka 549 for 9 dec (Udara 188, Dinusha 92, Kamindu 84, Shamar 2-98).
