Jangoo, Chase whip SL as Windies take charge: 1st Test, Day 3 (Antigua)

Skipper Roston Chase and Amir Jangoo dominated proceedings as West Indies took firm control of the first Test on day three after a remarkable record partnership.

Resuming at 271/5, the pair dominated the Sri Lankan attack throughout the day, turning a narrow deficit into a commanding advantage. Jangoo registered his maiden Test double century with a superb 233, while Chase produced an unbeaten 179 as the duo shared a record 401-run sixth-wicket partnership that completely shifted the balance of the match.

The hosts eventually declared on 626/9, securing a massive first-innings lead of 318 runs. Sri Lanka then faced a difficult period late in the day and reached 15/1 in their second innings after losing an early wicket.

With the visitors still trailing heavily and West Indies requiring only nine more wickets, the home side moved into a dominant position heading into the fourth day of the Test.

Sri Lanka 308 and 15 for 1 (Rajitha 4*, Madushka 2*, Seales 1-5) trail West Indies 626 for 9 dec (Jangoo 233, Chase 194, Rathnayaka 5-124) by 303 runs.
