Opener Brandon King batted with assurance as West Indies defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first Test in Mirpur, taking a 1–0 lead in the two-match series.
Bangladesh, who had scored 272 in their first innings, were dismissed for 142 in their second, setting the visitors a target of 170. Nayeem Hasan top-scored with a fighting 52, while Jomel Warrican claimed four wickets for 63 and Roston Chase took five for 36 to dismantle the Bangladesh batting line-up.
Earlier, Shadman Islam had scored 105 in the hosts’ first innings, but Warrican’s five-wicket haul restricted Bangladesh to a modest total.
West Indies completed the victory comfortably at 170 for two, with Brandon King leading the chase with an unbeaten 81 and Kavem Hodge finishing 31 not out.
John Campbell contributed 49, while the visitors’ disciplined batting ensured there were few alarms in the pursuit of their target. Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Campbell had earlier scored half-centuries in West Indies’ first innings of 245, giving Bangladesh a narrow 27-run lead.
West Indies 245 (Chanderpaul 56, Campbell 54, Hasan 4-33) and 170 for 2 (King 81*, Campbell 49, Hodge 31*) beat Bangladesh 272 (Islam 105, Warrican 5-53) and 142 (Hasan 52, Chase 5-36, Warrican 4-63) by eight wickets.
