Ricky Ponting 111 not out and Shane Watson 136 not out put on a record unbroken 251run stand for the 2nd wicket as Australia powered past the 257 target set by England with 8.1 overs remaining. After winning the toss England failed to take advantage of ideal batting conditions crashing to 1016 as Australia snatched the early initiative.
