Dennis Lillee: Intelligence, stamina and hostility

Dennis Lillee had it all - Intelligence, stamina and hostility. He formed one of the famed bowling partenerships with Jeff Thomson in the 1970s. Lillee ended his career as the highest wicket taker in Test cricket.

The Lillee story is also one of resilience; returning after being told he might never bowl again due to stress fractures in his back. Starting in 1973, Lillee was out of Test cricket for 18 months. He returned as a different but no less effective bowler.

Lillee retired in 1984 with 355 dismissals in his 70-Test match career.
