NZ edge out England after Taylor, Santner heroics: 1st ODI (Hamilton)

Ross Taylor's 18th ODI century and a late blitz from Mitchell Santner took New Zealand to a narrow three-wicket victory over England.

Chasing 285, Taylor's 113 off 116 balls and Santner's 45 not out in 27 balls gave New Zealand a first-up win.

Earlier, Joe Root made 71 and Jos Butter's brilliant 79 from only 65 balls got England up to 284-8. Ben Stokes returning from suspension made only 12 but bowled a brilliant spell (2-43) that almost swung the match to England.

New Zealand 287 for 7 (Taylor 113, Latham 79, Stokes 2-43) beat England 284 for 8 (Buttler 79, Root 71, Santner 2-54) by three wickets.
