Stokes, Archer power opening win over South Africa: 2019 WC #1 (Oval)

Allrounders Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer were the stars as England defeated South Africa and got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start.

Bowling with pace and bounce, Archer hit Hashim Amla on the helmet to force him to retire hurt as he took 3-27. South Africa were dismissed for 207 to lose by 104 runs.

Earlier, Stokes hit 89 and Jason Roy, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan hit half-centuries to take England to 311-8.

England 311 for 8 (Stokes 89, Morgan 57, Roy 54, Root 51, Ngidi 3-66) beat South Africa 207 (de Kock 68, van der Dussen 50, Archer 3-27) by 104 runs.
