Bairstow ton deals India with first loss: 2019 WC #38 (Edgbaston)

Johnny Bairstow hit a rapid century as England reignited their World Cup campaign with a 31 run win over India.

Bairstow smashed 111 and combined with the fit-again Jason Roy (66) for an opening stand of 160. Ben Stokes struck 79 to lift England to 337-7.

In reply, Virat Kohli (66) put on 138 with Rohit Sharma, who went on to complete a century. MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya briefly raised the hopes but England held their nerve to restrict India to 306-5.

This was India's first loss in the 2019 World Cup.

England 337 for 7 (Bairstow 111, Stokes 79, Roy 66, Shami 5-69) beat India 306 (Rohit 102, Kohli 66, Plunkett 3-55) by 31 runs.
