Farooqi, Gurbaz stun New Zealand for upset win: 2024 T20 World Cup (Providence)

Afghanistan routed New Zealand by 84 runs in a shock win to grab top spot in Group C. 

NZ slumped to 75 all out off 15.2 overs to suffer their first defeat ever to Afghanistan in T20s. Left-arm paceman Fazalhaq Farooqi took 4-17. 

Earlier, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the way with a top score of 80 off 56 balls, which included five sixes. He had a 103 stand for the first wicket with Ibrahim Zadran (44) as Afghanistan posted a competitive 159-6.

Afghanistan 159 for 6 (Gurbaz 80, Ibrahim 44, Boult 2-22, Henry 2-37) beat New Zealand 75 (Phillips 18, Rashid 4 for 17, Farooqi 4 for 17) by 84 runs.
