Srinivasan Venkataraghavan was one of the famed Indian spin quartet in the 1970s. A challenging customer for the world's best batsmen, he could be a handful regardless of the conditions.
He captained India in Test cricket. He also led India at the 1975 and 1979 World Cup tournaments.
Venkat took 156 wickets in 57 Tests. His claim of over 530 wickets is the second highest in Ranji Trophy history.
After retiring from first class cricket in 1985, Venkat entered the arena of cricket administration. He then became an international umpire from 1993-2004.
