Edgar Arthur “Ted” McDonald (1891–1937) was a celebrated Australian cricketer and Australian rules footballer, renowned for his exceptional fast bowling and athletic versatility.
He represented Australia in 11 Test matches, most notably during the 1921 Ashes series, where his pace, alongside Jack Gregory, helped secure a dominant 5–0 series victory.
Domestically, he played for Tasmania, Victoria, and later Lancashire, taking over 1,000 wickets for the English county.
In addition to cricket, McDonald was a talented footballer, appearing for Launceston, Essendon, and Fitzroy. His remarkable performances earned him the prestigious Wisden Cricketer of the Year award in 1922.
McDonald’s life was tragically cut short at the age of 46 in a car accident near Bolton, England, but his legacy as one of Australia’s finest fast bowlers endures.
