Friedel de Wet (born 26 June 1980 in Durban, South Africa) was a right-arm fast-medium bowler who represented the national side in two Test matches.

He built his reputation in South African domestic cricket, particularly with the Highveld Lions, and also had spells with Middlesex and Hampshire in English county cricket.

De Wet made his Test debut against England at Centurion in December 2009, receiving his opportunity after Dale Steyn was injured. He made an immediate impact, taking 4/55 in England’s first innings and contributing with the bat as South Africa pushed England hard in a closely contested Test. He finished the match with seven wickets and showed the ability to generate movement and bounce without relying solely on extreme pace.

His international career was brief, with his second and final Test coming against England at Newlands in January 2010.

Across his two Tests he took 6 wickets, while his first-class career yielded 229 wickets in 62 matches. Persistent back problems eventually curtailed his playing career, and de Wet retired from professional cricket in 2012.
