Joe Root was born on 30 Dec 1990 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. He is a technically correct top order right hand batsman who made his first class debut v Loughborough University in May 2010.
He was selected on the England tour to India in 2012 and made his debut in the 4th Test at Nagpur scoring a stubborn 73
Ahead of the 2013 Ashes series, Australian David Warner was involved in a "physical altercation" with Root and was dropped from the team.
Root took over the Test captaincy in 2017 after Alistair Cook stood down following the series defeat in India.
