Ben Stokes was born on 4 June 1991 at Canterbury in New Zealand. He is a clean striking left handed batsman who bowls right arm medium pace.
Stokes first played for England in the Under 19 World Cup in 2010 and then made his first class debut for Durham in 2010. He made his international debut when he was selected in the ODI against Ireland in 2011.
He was selected on the 2013/14 Ashes tour and made his Test debut in Adelaide after replacing Jonathon Trott who went home on stress leave.
In Jan 2016, Stokes hit the fastest double century for England in 163 balls, the second fastest in history. His 259 was made against the quality attack of South Africa in the 2nd Test at Cape Town.
In September 2017, Stokes was arrested for fighting in the streets of southwest English city of Bristol. Stokes said he was acting in self-defence. He was dropped from the 2017/18 Ashes touring squad whilst awaiting his court trial. He was found not guilty by the courts in Aug 2018.
He has been instrumental in several of England’s significant victories, including the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup. In mid-2022, he was appointed as the captain of the England Test team, bringing a new aggressive approach to the side.
