Emilio Gay is a left-handed opening batter born in Bedford, England, on 14 April 2000.

A graduate of the Northamptonshire academy, he made his first-class debut in 2019 and quickly earned a reputation as a technically sound and patient red-ball player. Through his mother’s family, he is also eligible for Italy and has represented the country in T20 international cricket.

Gay enjoyed a breakthrough period with Northamptonshire, highlighted by a career-best 261 against Middlesex in 2024. His consistent performances led to a move to Durham, where he continued to produce runs at the top of the order. By 2026, he had accumulated more than 4,700 first-class runs at an average exceeding 40, underlining his status as one of England’s leading domestic batters.

Renowned for his composure and classical technique, Gay is regarded as a specialist for the longer format of the game. Strong displays for Durham and the England Lions placed him firmly in contention for higher honours, with many viewing him as a player well suited to Test cricket.
