1925 Ashes: Ponsford impresses in high scoring win over England (MCG)

Australia defeated England by 81 runs in a high-scoring contest in the 2nd Test.

Batting first, Australia piled on 600 runs, with Bill Ponsford scoring a classy 128 and Jack Ryder contributing 88.

England responded strongly with 437, led by a superb 143 from Herbert Sutcliffe.

In their second innings, Australia declared at 250/8, setting England a target of 414.

Despite a valiant 119 from Jack Hobbs, England fell short, bowled out for 332. Arthur Mailey was instrumental for Australia, taking eight wickets across both innings. The win gave Australia a 2–0 lead in the five-match series.
