Asalanka guides win over West Indies: 1st ODI (Pallekele)

Skipper Charith Asalanka inspired Sri Lanka to a five-wicket win over West Indies in their rain-hit ODI cricket opener at Pallekele.

A 137-run partnership off 109 balls between debutant Nishan Madushka (69) and Asalanka (77) delivered the win on a revised DLS target, with 31 balls to spare.

Earlier, West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and elected to bat first, with his team scoring 4-185 in 38.3 of their 50 allotted overs before rain swept in.

Sri Lanka 234 for 5 (Asalanka 77, Madushka 69, Motie 3-47) beat West Indies 185 for 4 (Rutherford 74*, Carty 37, Chase 33*, Hasaranga 2-18) by five wickets (DLS method).
