
David Ogilvie was born on June 3, 1951, in Southport, Queensland.
He was a right-handed batsman who played Test cricket for Australia between 1977 and 1978, during a period when the national team was affected by player defections to World Series Cricket.
Ogilvie made his Test debut for Australia against India at the Brisbane Cricket Ground on December 2, 1977. On his debut, he contributed 46 to a crucial 97-run partnership in the 2nd innings with captain Bob Simpson, helping Australia recover from a precarious position.
He played a total of five Tests, scoring 178 runs at an average of 17.80, with a top score of 47. Despite his promising start, he struggled to secure a permanent spot in the team and was not selected after the 1977–78 season .
After retirement, he was a teacher and counselor at Brisbane Boys College.
