Markram century turns tables on Australia, famous win in sight: WTC Final Day 3 (Lords)

Aiden Markram led the way to guide South Africa to the brink of a historic World Test Championship win after a dramatic third day against Australia at Lords.

Markram stroked 102 not out and was involved in an unbroken 143-run stand with hobbling captain Temba Bavuma (65 not out). South Africa closed on 213-2 and need just 69 runs with eight wickets in hand to seal a famous victory.

Earlier, Australia started overnight at 144-8 and Lyon fell early. A defiant final-wicket partnership between Mitchell Starc (58 not out) and Josh Hazlewood yielded 59 runs as Australia set South Africa a challenging chase of 282.

South Africa 138 and 213 for 2 (Markram 102*, Bavuma 65*, Starc 2-53) need 69 runs to beat Australia 212 and 207 (Starc 58, Carey 43, Rabada 4-59, Ngidi 3-38). June 2025.
