Australia snuff out England fight, retain Ashes: 3rd Test, Day 5 (Adelaide)

Australia sealed the Ashes on Day 5 of the third Test at Adelaide with a commanding 82-run victory over England to take an unassailable 3–0 lead in the series.

Chasing a formidable target of 435, England showed brief resistance through Jamie Smith and Will Jacks, but Australia’s bowlers, led by Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, struck at key moments to bowl the visitors out for 352.

Smith had a brain fade on 60 when he gifted his wicket as the Australian attack started tiring. Lyon had limped off with a leg injury.

Backed by major contributions earlier in the match from Travis Head and Alex Carey, Australia’s dominant all-round performance ensured the urn was retained with two Tests still to play.

Australia 371 and 349 (Head 170, Carey 72, Tongue 4-70) beat England 286 and 352 (Crawley 85, Smith 60, Jacks 47, Starc 3-42, Cummins 3-48, Lyon 3-77) by 82 runs.
