Shanto, Mominul put Bangladesh ahead of Pakistan: 1st Test, Day 4 (Mirpur)

Bangladesh moved into a strong position at the close of Day 4 of the 1st Test in Mirpur, reaching 152/3 in their second innings after taking a 27-run first-innings lead over Pakistan’s 386.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto continued his outstanding match with an unbeaten 58, while Mominul Haque contributed a patient 56 as the pair added a vital century partnership to rebuild the innings after Bangladesh slipped to 23/2 early in the day.

Pakistan’s bowlers struck with the new ball through Hasan Ali and Mohammad Abbas, but Bangladesh gradually tightened their control as batting conditions remained challenging yet manageable.

Shaheen Shah Afridi removed Mominul late in the day, though Bangladesh still finished with an overall lead of 179 runs heading into the final day, with Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease and the pitch expected to assist spin increasingly on Day 5.

Bangladesh 413 and 152 for 3 (Shanto 58*, Mominul 56, Hasan 1-23) lead Pakistan 386 (Awais 103, Fazal 60, Mehidy 5-102, Taijul 2-46) by 120 runs.
