Starc tears through Bangladesh as 18 wickets tumble: 2nd Test, Day 1 (Mackay)

Bangladesh were blown away for just 64 on the opening day of the second Test in Mackay, with Mitchell Starc producing a sensational 6–12.

Starc claimed five wickets in his opening spell, including four of Bangladesh’s top five for ducks, as the visitors crashed to 12/5. Pat Cummins added 3–25 as Bangladesh were dismissed in only 34 overs.

Australia appeared set for a commanding position but suffered a dramatic collapse of their own, finishing 165/8, a lead of 101 runs.

Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 51, while Steve Smith made 44, but Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam matched Starc’s impact with a superb 6–35. An extraordinary 18 wickets fell on the first day, leaving Australia ahead but still needing to extend their lead on Day 2.

Australia 165 for 8 (Green 51*, Smith 42, Shoriful 6-35) lead Bangladesh 64 (Starc 6-12, Cummins 3-25) by 101 runs.
