Lillee kicking Javed Miandad - a most undignified incident

The image of umpire Tony Crafter stepping in to hold back Dennis Lillee whilst Javed Miandad wielded his bat ready to strike were beamed around the world in one of the ugliest sights ever to be seen in a test match.

Lillee was fined and suspended for two ODIs after aiming a kick at the Pakistan captain Javed Miandad. According to Lillee, the Pakistani had used swear words at him.

Miandad said “I lifted my bat to ward him off and to tell him that if he hit me, I’d hit him for saying dirty words to me”.
