Wessly Nyasha Madhevere was born on 4 September 2000 in Harare.
A right-handed top-order batter and right-arm off-spin bowler, he emerged through Zimbabwe’s youth cricket system and represented his country at three Under-19 World Cups in 2016, 2018 and 2020. His performances at the 2018 tournament brought him international recognition as one of Zimbabwe’s promising young talents, and he was appointed vice-captain of the 2020 Under-19 side.
Madhevere made his international debut in March 2020, playing his first ODI against Bangladesh before making his T20I debut later that month. He progressed to Test cricket in March 2021 against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi. Combining an attacking batting approach with useful off-spin, he developed into a versatile member of Zimbabwe’s national side, capable of contributing in several roles. He also represented Mashonaland Eagles in domestic cricket.
One of the highlights of Madhevere’s international career came in March 2023 when he claimed an ODI hat-trick against the Netherlands, becoming only the third Zimbabwean bowler to achieve the feat. Although his progress was interrupted by a four-month suspension in 2023 following a failed drugs test, he returned to international cricket and continued his efforts to establish himself as a regular contributor.
