England led by David Gower toured India for a 5-match Test series between November 1984 and February 1985. Sunil Gavaskar was the Indian skipper.
The series was significantly impacted by political events in India when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated. England won the series 2–1, a rare triumph in India.
