England crush Windies after Bethell blast: 1st ODI (Birmingham)

England beat West Indies by 238 runs at Edgbaston after Jacob Bethell blasted 82 in just 53 balls.

Ben Duckett (60), Brook (58) and Joe Root (57) also hit fifties as England posted a formidable 400-8 in Harry Brook’s first outing as skipper.

This is the highest team score without a century. The previous record for the highest score was held by South Africa, who scored 392/6 against Pakistan in 2007, with Jacques Kallis top-scoring at 88 not out.

Paceman Saqib Mahmood ran through the West Indies top order for 3-32 as the visitors folded for 162.

England 400 for 8 (Bethell 82, Duckett 60, Brook 58, Root 57, Seales 4-84) beat West Indies 162 (Overton 3-22, Mahmood 3-32) by 238 runs.
