Mosaddek inspires Bangladesh to stunning win over Aussies: 1st ODI (Mirpur)

Mosaddek Hossain was the star as Bangladesh secured one of the most memorable ODI victories in their history, defeating Australia by 86 runs via the DLS method in the series opener at Mirpur.

After being asked to bat, the hosts overcame a quiet middle phase to post a competitive 284/8. Tanzid Hasan Tamim (54) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (67) laid a solid foundation, but it was Mosaddek Hossain who transformed the innings. His superb, unbeaten 86 off just 70 deliveries ensured a roaring finish for the Tigers.

Australia’s chase stalled immediately as Matt Short fell to the very first ball, sending the visitors into an early slump at 2/2. While Cameron Green fought hard for an unbeaten 52, Bangladesh’s bowlers never let go of the reins.

Spearheaded by the express pace of Nahid Rana, who ripped through the lineup with figures of 4/41, Bangladesh reduced Australia to 191/9. With the visitors still requiring 94 runs from 46 balls, rain and lightning brought an early end to the contest.

The resulting 86-run DLS victory gives Bangladesh a 1-0 series lead and their first ODI triumph over Australia in more than two decades since the famous win in Cardiff in 2005.

Bangladesh 284 for 8 (Mosaddek 86*, Shanto 67, Ellis 3-38) beat Australia 191 for 9 (Green 52*, Carey 47, Rana 4-41) by 86 runs (DLS method).
